By providing a combination of mental health support and educational services to adolescents enrolled in secondary schools whose emotional/ behavioral disturbances prevent them from learning and functioning in a regular classroom, AHLP seeks to resolve problem behaviors, restore successful educational trajectories in brief periods and provide lifetime mental health self-management skills. Let's Talk About It March 16, 2023: Mental Health First Aid -  Marie Arroyo, LMFT-Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Program Supervisor-Adult and Older Adult Services-Calexico Anxiety and Depression

The Mental Health First Aid program is an interactive training program that introduces participants, 18 years of age and over, to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems. This training, is offered free of charge as a community service to the public by Imperial County Behavioral Health. It builds understanding of the impact of mental health concerns and outlines common treatments. Mental health awareness can support safer and healthier communities.

Maria Nava-Froelich has spent decades building a Family Resource Center located at Calipatria High School that services a variety of human needs for the residents of the Calipatria/Niland area. Let's Talk About It gets together with Ms. Nava-Froelich to talk about the history, growth and vision of the Resource Center, along with the supports available and how having this type of resource not only offers an access point to behavioral health services, it helps support wellness by meeting a diverse list of community needs.

Let's Talk About It March 30, 2023: Talking to Children About Mass Shooting - Stephannie Ramirez, LCSW-Licensed Clinical Social WorkerSupervising Therapist-Children Services.

Young children across the nation are struggling with their emotions about the stories on mass shootings, which will cause them to seek out trusted adults for help and reassurance. Many students as young as kindergartners continue to participate in active shooter drills at schools. The exposure to these drills can lead to very difficult questions and conversations. Join us as Stephannie Ramirez, supervising therapist talks more in detail about this important subject and how to ease those feelings in children.
